Refugees are forced to leave their countries for many reasons:

  1. Conflict and Violence: War, civil strife, and ethnic or sectarian violence make regions unsafe.

  2. Persecution: Political, religious, ethnic, gender, or LGBTQ+ persecution pushes people to seek safety.

  3. Environmental Disasters: Natural disasters and climate change, such as rising sea levels and droughts, displace communities.

  4. Economic Collapse: Severe poverty and resource scarcity drive people to seek survival elsewhere.

  5. Government Oppression: State-sanctioned forced displacement, human trafficking, and slavery also force people to flee.

  6. Crime and Non-State Violence: Organized crime, militias, and armed groups create unsafe living conditions.

These issues often overlap, creating complex crises that leave people with no choice but to seek refuge.

At Ascend Adventure we have decided to try and support this cause. During our travels over the last year, we have had direct contact with people who have experienced some of the above situations in their lives. It is tragic to see how little they have and we are endeavoring to try and gather as many donations as possible with a view to taking the things people need directly to them.

The Idea
The last year has seen some changes in how Ascend Adventure wishes to move forward, and in this, we decided to take some time out to evaluate and take part in our own adventurous challenges by heading out on our travels.

During this time, we were inspired to visit some beautiful parts of the world but were equally shocked by some of the things we witnessed compared to how things are generally in the UK.

The plight of animals, especially cats and dogs in parts of Africa and Europe, seeing how stray animals are treated and how the infrastructure can barely cope with the need for vaccination and sterilisation.

We saw how the earthquake victims in Morocco were having to cope and live in a relatively hostile and unsupported environment and saw how government departments although believing they were doing the right thing, were making decisions about whole communities without consultation leaving hundreds of people homeless, jobless and penniless.

We have also witnessed firsthand the continuing struggle of people escaping hostile environments and circumstances who just want somewhere safe to live where their children can get an education, a good night’s sleep, and be the children they are meant to be.

This has inspired us to link our adventurous framework and experiences with young people in the UK who could benefit educationally and emotionally from witnessing some of these world issues.

We believe that in the Western World, although there are struggles and issues to be overcome, we are given a lot of opportunity, help, and support to deal with these struggles. Some places and people worldwide do not benefit from this help and support. International Edventures aims to break down some of these barriers, creating a valuable, non-formal intercultural educational youth initiative that highlights some of the world’s developmental crises, and allows other cultures to be explored and understood, with the common goal of just trying to improve the world in a little way by increasing awareness of social and cultural similarities and differences.
